East Africa is defying the continent's wider slowdown. Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the region rose 15.4% to a record US$15 billion in 2025 — even as FDI across Africa as a whole fell 26% to US$70 billion. Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and Somalia all posted gains, driven by a wave of large greenfield projects.
Energy and extractive industries continue to anchor the inflows. Uganda's US$4 billion oil and gas development ranked among the largest greenfield projects on the continent, while Ethiopia attracted multi-billion-dollar chemicals and energy investments and the DRC drew fresh capital into its metals sector. Ethiopia remained the region's single biggest recipient at US$3.79 billion.
For contractors, utilities and suppliers, this signals sustained momentum: every new plant, pipeline and processing facility brings demand for power infrastructure, cabling, switchgear and dependable electrical delivery.
As one of the region's accountable partners across the full electrical value chain, MNT Group is positioned to support the projects driving East Africa's record investment.
